Birdhouse Gourds, also known as Large Bottle Gourds, are an heirloom variety perfect for crafting and carving. They are typically 12-14 inches in height and 5 inches in diameter, giving crafters a large canvas to work with.

Instructions:
Direct sow 2/3 seeds per space once soil temps have reached 70ºF. Prefers rich, loose, well-drained soils. Water well, at least 1-2 times per week. Provide fertilizer based on soil test. For drying, harvest after fruits after they receive 2-3 frosts. Leaves, stems, and fruit should all be varying shades of brown. Birdhouse gourds require a long drying time. Allow to dry for 3-6 months in an area with good ventilation. Discard any soft or rotten fruit. If mold begins to develop wipe off with a light bleach solution. Gourds are dry when they rattle and weight very little.
